Book of Remembrance

Crematorium books

First created by FG Marshall almost 80 years ago – and still the finest in the world.

Our founder, Frederick Marshall, made the first-ever Book of Remembrance - for Woking Crematorium - back in the 1930s. Today, our Books of Remembrance for crematoriums and larger churches remain true to his original specification: entirely hand-made using traditional bookbinding techniques and materials, and hand-lettered and illustrated throughout.

Every Book of Remembrance is completely bespoke. You can choose covers finished in vellum or leather, and decorated as simply or ornately as you wish. The pages can be in sheepskin parchment or archival-quality acid-free paper, and are edge-gilded with 24-carat gold. All the entries are hand-lettered by our in-house calligraphers, and illustrated by our own team of artists.

A beautiful, dignified and enduring way to record and commemorate loved ones.

As standard, our crematorium books have:

  • Two pages allocated to each day of the year with hand-lettered date titling
  • Pages ruled with two columns, and space for around 50 two-line memorial entries
  • The potential to last for hundreds of years, thanks to our traditional bookbinding techniques
